Overview
Bathrooms, explained
What it is
Bathroom renovation means stripping out the existing room and rebuilding it: new pipework and waste, waterproofing, wall and floor preparation, tiling, sanitaryware, showers, lighting, ventilation and decoration. It covers main bathrooms, en-suites and cloakrooms.
Who it is for
It suits homeowners with a dated or failing bathroom, families who need a more practical layout, people adding an en-suite, landlords refreshing a rental, and anyone planning ahead for easier access as their needs change.
When you need it
Typical signs are cracked or loose tiles, blackened sealant, a shower that leaks, low water pressure, poor extraction and mould, or a layout that wastes space. It is also sensible to act before a small leak becomes a ceiling repair in the room below.
Why professional help matters
Most bathroom problems start behind the surface. Poor waterproofing, badly prepared walls and incorrect falls on shower floors cause leaks that only show once they have damaged the structure. A properly managed bathroom renovation deals with what is behind the tiles first, so the finished room stays watertight.
The cost of waiting
What happens if it is left
Water damage below
A leaking shower tray or failed seal can soak joists and ceilings in the room below. Repairs then involve two rooms, not one.
Mould and poor air
Without proper extraction, moisture builds up, causing mould on ceilings, grout and sealant that keeps coming back.
Tiles that crack and lift
Tiling onto unsuitable or moving surfaces leads to cracked tiles and grout, letting water in behind them.
Costly second repairs
Fixing a leak after the bathroom is tiled usually means breaking out new tiles, adding cost and disruption.
Our process
Five clear steps, one team
- 01
Step 1 – Site visit
We look at the room, water pressure, waste routes and the condition of the floor and walls, and talk through how you use the bathroom.
- 02
Step 2 – Specification
We agree the layout, fittings and finishes before work starts, so you know what the finished room will look like.
- 03
Step 3 – Strip-out and first fix
The old bathroom is removed, pipework and waste are run or replaced, and electrics and extraction are installed.
- 04
Step 4 – Waterproofing, tiling and fitting
Wet areas are prepared and waterproofed, then tiled. Sanitaryware, showers and fittings follow.
- 05
Step 5 – Testing and handover
Water, waste and extraction are tested, sealant is finished, and we walk through the room with you before handover.
What you gain
The benefits, in practice
Watertight from the start
Waterproofing and preparation are part of the job, not an optional extra, protecting the rooms below.
No surprises at the end
The specification is agreed before work starts, so the finished room matches what you expected.
Fresher air
Extraction is planned and fitted properly to reduce condensation and mould.
One programme
Plumbing, electrics, tiling and decoration are coordinated by one team, keeping the bathroom out of use for less time.
A layout that works
We look at door swing, shower position and storage so the room is easier to use every day.
Longer-lasting finishes
Correct substrates and falls mean tiles, grout and sealant last far longer.

In detail
Bathrooms: materials, methods and options
Bathrooms range from a small cloakroom to a large family room with a separate shower. These are the details that decide how well they work and how long they last.
Showers, walk-ins and wet rooms
Enclosed showers with trays are straightforward and reliable. Walk-in showers with a fixed glass panel open the room up. Wet rooms remove the tray altogether and rely on a fully tanked floor laid to fall towards the drain, which needs careful preparation and suitable joists.
Waterproofing and wall boards
In wet zones, walls should be boarded with moisture-resistant or cement-based boards and tanked before tiling. This is invisible once finished, but it is what keeps water out of the structure.
Tiles and surfaces
Porcelain is hard-wearing and low-maintenance. Natural stone is beautiful but needs sealing. Large-format tiles reduce grout lines but need very flat walls and floors. The surface choice is made alongside the preparation, not separately.
Water pressure and heating
Rainfall and high-flow showers depend on the water system. We check pressure and pipework before fittings are chosen. Heated towel rails and underfloor heating can be included and are coordinated with the heating system.
En-suites and cloakrooms
Small rooms need careful planning for waste routes and extraction. Compact sanitaryware, wall-hung toilets and recessed storage make a big difference to how spacious they feel.
Rental and accessible bathrooms
For rental properties, robust fittings and easy-clean surfaces reduce maintenance. For clients planning for later life, level-access showers, grab rails and wider doors can be designed in from the start.
FAQ
Bathrooms questions, answered
How long does a bathroom renovation take?
It depends on the size of the room and how much is changing. Once the specification is agreed we set out the order of work, so you know when the bathroom will be out of use.
Can you turn my bathroom into a wet room?
Often, yes. Wet rooms need a fully waterproofed floor laid to fall to the drain, so we check the floor structure at the site visit.
Do you fit en-suites and cloakrooms?
Yes. We renovate main bathrooms, en-suites and cloakrooms, including new rooms where there is space for one.
Will you deal with the plumbing and electrics?
Yes. The plumbing, electrics, extraction and tiling are all managed by us as one programme.
How much does bathrooms cost in Bromley?
We do not publish fixed prices, because every property and brief is different. After a visit and an agreed scope, we give you an estimate for your project. Call 07878 938265 or request an estimate to start.
Do you offer a guarantee on bathrooms?
Guarantee terms are not published on this website. Ask us when we discuss your project and we will explain what applies to the work.
Do you offer emergency call-outs?
We do not advertise an emergency call-out service. We are open Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5:00pm and Saturday 7:30am to 12:00pm. Call 07878 938265 during those hours to talk to us.

How much experience do you have?
We bring more than 30 years' experience to every project, with our own project management and a network of experienced tradespeople and specialists.
How long does bathrooms take from first call to finish?
The timeline depends on the size of the job and what is included. After the site visit we agree the scope and set out the order of work, so you know what happens and when before anything starts. Because one project manager sequences every trade, there are fewer gaps between stages.
What should I have ready before the site visit?
A rough idea of what you want to change, any photos or examples you like, and anything you already know about the property, such as its age, previous work or known problems. We will look at the rest with you, including access, services and the condition of walls and floors.
